The agency tasked with collecting the Household charge says staff members have received hate mail and death threats.
The Irish Examiner reports that a senior staff member received a shotgun cartridge in the post.
Households which have not yet paid the tax will be receiving letters threatening legal action if they do not pay the 100 euro charge plus interest.
